We've expanded our Mission District home to provide more space and stimulating surroundings for artists and arts enthusiasts of all stripes and ages. Our new facility offers an environment where professionals, emerging artists, students, and dance fans can surround, influence, and inspire one another.

Our expanded home includes our existing 10,000 sq-ft space, the ODC Theater at 17th and Shotwell, and the new ODC Dance Commons, a 23,000 sq-ft building located at 351 Shotwell St. (between 17th and 18th streets) - just down the block.

The ODC Dance Commons is fast becoming the most significant contemporary dance resource on the West Coast and a national destination for artists and arts enthusiasts.

ODC Dance Commons includes:

  • five studios for classroom and rehearsal use
  • visual arts gallery spaces
  • locker rooms with showers
  • offices for ODC/Dance, ODC Theater, and ODC School/Rhythm and Motion staff
  • conference room for ODC administration and other local groups
  • Town Hall community gathering space
  • family-friendly parents’ lounge with viewing window into Skirball Children's Studio

Other Community Services:

  • Healthy Dancers Clinic at ODC - in partnership with UCSF/San Francisco General Hospital medical staff
  • Pilates training center for dancers and the community - under the direction of certified Pilates instructor Martt Lawrence

Did you know? Founded in 1971 by choreographer Brenda Way and based in San Francisco for over 30 years, ODC is made up of many parts – each one making its own unique contribution to the overall cultural life of our community.

  • ODC School/Rhythm and Motion – a training center for professional & recreational dancers of all ages
  • ODC Dance Jam – a children's/youth performing company
