Week 1: Technique, Improvisation & Partnering
July 26 - 30
$225
MWF: 10am - 3pm
T/Th: 12pm - 4pm

Week 2: Technique & Repertory
August 16 - 20
$275
12pm - 5pm

$450 for both weeks

This one or two week program is based on rigorous technical training, with a concentration on the intelligent use of the body to realize each individual’s physical potential. Celebrating artistic imagination, the program advances technical, improvisational, partnering and performance skills. The focus is to develop uninhibited artistry and technical virtuosity. We will explore high-speed idiosyncratic language until nuanced articulation lay with ease beneath the skin. This work will take one into extreme physical terrains with confidence and efficiency. Johnston creates a warm and playful environment that encourages dancers to devour discovery and to express it in their bodies through the science of movement and the art of choreography. Dancers interested in joining the Ledges & Bones Company are encouraged to take both weeks

Holly Johnston was born in South Korea and has lived in the United States since her adoption at the age of four. She is the artistic director of LEDGES AND BONES DANCE PROJECT, a collection of contemporary dance artists collaborating to create original choreography through a rigorous process of improvisation, experimentation and repetition. Johnston was selected by Dance Magazine as one of their “25 to Watch” in 2007 for her “fearless and fluid,” (Dance Magazine) approach to choreography. She is a performer, choreographer and movement educator holding a BA in Dance from Loyola Marymount University. As a choreographer her work has been described by critics as "stunning..."(-NYTheatre), "hard-driving, hyperphysical"(-LA Times).... “lovely, pleasing, unpredictable, consistently interesting “ (Dance Insider, NY). Her choreography has been presented in New York at The Linhart Theater/NYC, ODC Theater/San Francisco and extensively throughout Los Angeles at The REDCAT, The Ford Amphitheater, Highways Performance Space, Diavolo Performance Space, El Portal Theater, and FOCUSfish.
