Katharine Hawthorne presents MainframeThurs. December 3 at 8pmFri. December 4 at 8pmSat. December 5 at 8pm$20 Advance, $25 at the door, $35 Arts Patron, $18 groups of 6 or more
Mainframe asks how computers have changed the way we see our bodies. Five dancers meet six old Macintosh monitors for a literal translation of human computer interaction. Hawthorne’s “powerful and sinuous movement” (Dance Magazine) positions dancers in a changing world, in which computers increasingly shape how we see ourselves and connect with each other. The dancers in Mainframe are: Gary Champi, Katherine Disenhof, Gabriel Mata, Suzette Sagisi, & Megan Wright.
Katharine Hawthorne is a San Francisco based choreographer who likes to watch thinking bodies in motion. She creates “fiercely intelligent, fearlessly athletic” (SF Bay Guardian) choreography at the intersection of art and science, combining her background in physics with her embodied experience as a dancer. www.khawthorne.net
Katharine Hawthorne is fiscally sponsored by Dancers’ Group and gratefully acknowledges the support of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation Visibility Award, Theatre Bay Area CA$H Grant, Stanford University Young Alumni Art Grant, Fleishhacker and Rainin Opportunity Funds at ODC Theater, Goodwill of San Francisco, space, the Zellerbach Family Foundation, and generous individual donors in the production of this performance.
