A comic opera with its heart on its sleeve

Featuring the San Francisco Opera Center’s prestigious 2012 Adler Fellows. Two strangers make eyes at a bus stop, but both are too buried in their own emotional baggage to do anything more than say hello. This dark-hued comedic rhapsody moves through a missed connection and dives into a wild fantasia of memories: from clumsy sexual exploration to full blown commitment, bloodthirsty fights to tender acknowledgments. It’s a surreal take on a timeless tale that we all know by heart.

LOVE/HATE was co-commissioned by ODC Theater, American Opera Projects, and Music Without Walls.
