San Francisco Lyric Opera presents David Lang's Pulitzer Prize-winning the little match girl passion. The work, based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and influenced by Bach's St. Matthew Passion will be performed at ODC on March 23 - 25.

Performed as it was originally conceived: with a quartet of four soloists, doubling as percussionists throughout, the singers include Ann Moss - soprano, Celeste Winant - alto, Eric Maggay Tuan - tenor, and Eugene Brancoveanu - bass. Barnaby Palmer will be conducting.

Anastazia Louise of Bad Unkl Sista will be creating costumes and choreography for this show; adding movement to this beautifully haunting music. Her fusion of Butoh-style dance with Western music promises to provide a striking and new dimension to the piece. Chip Grant of Urban Opera will be directing the production.

SF Lyric has been on hiatus for the past several years. This is performance marks SF Lyric's re-entry to San Francisco's music landscape; rising with a redirected mission and a new vision.

The work is about an hour in length.
