2022 Pilot Program

2022 Pilot Program

This year, ODC has partnered with the California Arts Council to relaunch Pilot for a special 50th anniversary! The program was originally created in 1990 to nurture the development of emerging choreographers. In 2022, with CAC’s support, we offered new services for emerging and mid-career choreographers, such as free rehearsal space, artistic stipends, and more intensive mentorship to support local choreographers seeking guidance. The program is spearheaded by ODC Associate Choreographer and School Director, Kimi Okada.

The Pilot Program has supported over 350 artists since 1991 and has been a staple of ODC’s creative mission to support local Bay Area choreographers with self-production throughout the organization’s 50 Year History. The program returns for the first time since 2019 and is, also for the first time, subsidized through support from the California Arts Council through the Impact Grant Program. This allocation has both secured performances at ODC’s Theater for the first time in the program's history, as well as choreographic mentorship from established artists Maurya Kerr & Lizz Roman
